A Bit About Me:
I went vegan at the end of June 2015 after doing some more research on veganism. I watched Earthlings (youtube.com/watch?v=ce4DJh-L7Ys) which I definitely recommend and regularly watch YouTube videos from other vegans.
I’ve had stomach problems since I was a child but back then that was from my choice of poor diet filled with processed foods despite my Mum’s recommendations of fruit & veg. I tried the FODMAP diet for a few weeks but I didn’t see any overall improvements. If anything it made it worse because I was worrying about what I could and couldn’t eat, I found it very overwhelming! I think most of my flare ups are caused by stress.
I live by myself in my own house. I love it because I can do my own thing, stock all the food I want & eat what I wish when I want too, haha. So if I’d like a freezer full of bananas.. I can have a freezer full of bananas.
I’m currently not working out as much as I used to & would like too, due to a knee injury. My previous workout routine was 6-7 days a week getting up at 4.50am for a gym session before work. Now I only go about twice a week but get up at 5.30 to do some light ab and quad strengthening workouts that are recommeded for my knee and some stretching/yoga. I’m seeing a specialist soon & am looking forward to getting back to the gym when I can. I don’t plan to go as often though, I’m planning on just 4 – 5 days a week.
Things I Do & Don’t Eat.
I avoid gluten. Many people are intollerant or sensitive to gluten without even knowing it. My sensitive stomach loves to bloat up like a balloon at any given chance so gluten is something I like to avoid. I’m not a big bread eater but I keep some gluten free bread in the freezer for when i get a toast craving..
I avoid refined sugars. I used to have a huge dessert weakness but now I actually prefer healthy alternative over the original ones filled with sugar.
I don’t drink coffee as my stomach is sensitive to caffeine.
I’ve just started drinking decaf green tea & other teas.
I only drink alcohol on occasion & when I do it’s wine.
I always drink 2 glasses of water before meals in the morning to hydrate my body after a night of sleep and to awaken my digestive system. I’ve just started adding fresh lime, lemon or cucumber or a combination to these as well.
I eat healthy fats but am conscious of how much a day as I don’t want to eat too much. Healthy fats are important for healthy hair, skin & nails.
How Frequently I Eat:
On a week day when I am at work, it would be typically like this –
Breakfast: 7.30am nicecream or a smoothie bowl & on occasion, oatmeal
Lunch: 12.00pm usually pasta, fruit monomeal, steamed potatoes, veggie rice paper rolls or rice thins with salad toppings
Afternoon Snack: 3.00pm chopped fruit, bliss balls or a home baked vegan treat eg. banana bread.
Dinner: When I home work I usually eat around 6ish and usually it’s oven baked sweet potato or white potato chips & a large bowl of steamed veggies
Do I Count Calories?
No. I eat when I’m hungry and while at work I try to eat around the same time. I am calorie concsious though with some things eg. peanut butter has 100 calories is a tablespoon.
I go out usually once a week for a “treat” meal. I never really go all out with this as I don’t enjoy the aftermath of feeling horrible which always happens! I usually try to go for veggie based meals, a gluten free veggie pizza or veggie burger, asian stir-fry meals ect. Those are my favourites!
Supplements I Take:
– B12 supplement
– Spirulina (iron)
– A probiotic tablet (currently, dairyfree ‘inner health plus’)
